my plan is to turn all of these names into hyperlinks, add a bunch of images to go along with them, and frame the whole group into some larger context, but in the meantime, here's a short list of some of the artist's works I'll be introducing on Saturday, and some artists that come to mind when I think about the works you've been making in class:
Composition studies, frottage (rubbings) and perspective studies (responding to site)
Max Ernst (we looked at some of these last week)
Toba Kheedori
Kevin Appel
Ingrid Calame
Drawing Now: Eight Propositions (catalog)
Richard Diebenkorn
Paul Cezanne
Piet Mondrian (drawings, 1920s)
Jan Dibbets
Portrait studies
Mary Cassatt
Cecilia Beaux (from TAM exhibition)
Lucien Freud
Francis Bacon
Frank Auerbach

Marc,
It seems foundcorn has a gravity even when not in your class. Sara, Jake and I are in a painting program together this quarter. We really want to see your work at the Portland art Museum. When will it be shown?
Also, you've inspired me (to steal). I think I'm going to be sewing and cutting on/with my still life studies. Thread is neato. Thanks for showing me that.
xoxo,
Sam (2-D art practice fall quarter-Evergreen)
Foundcorn radiates out in all directions!
Glad to hear you are all in painting together, and you're all welcome to visit Saturday morning class anytime.
The PAM show opens June 28th and will be up for a few months. I'll post more info soon. Best, Marc
